Clubs

DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Each year students have the opportunity to compete at three different levels. They will complete a test relating to a particular event and participate in role-playing at the competition. Students learn professional development, social skills, and 21st-century skills.

FCA meets on Fridays at 8 a.m. in Room 127. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Byington-Solway FFA Chapter has a long tradition of community service, classroom excellence, and winning spirit. Students who enroll in Agriculture Education classes here at Byington-Solway, located on the Karns High campus, will become members of the National FFA Organization. Our membership is comprised of Karns, Hardin Valley, and Powell students. No fee is required to become a member, as we are an affiliate chapter through the Tennessee Association. This means the State Association pays for membership!

Membership in the FFA is a critical part of Agriculture Education and the 3 circle model. FFA membership allows students to put the knowledge they develop in the classroom and laboratory settings into real life applications.

The Karns High School Gay-Straight Alliance is open to all students who want to promote understanding and celebrate diversity at Karns High School. The group meets every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in room 137 unless otherwise noted.

HOSA is a student led organization whose purpose is to allow students to develop various skill competencies through the health science education program. Our mission is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community.

Key Club is an international student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. Members of Key Club are encouraged to provide service to the school and community. Please note, there is a $14.00 membership fee for Key Club.

The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 8 a.m. in Room 203.

Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school mathematics honor society that encourages interest in mathematics and promotes academic excellence.

At Karns High School, Mu Alpha Theta serves as both an honor society and a service club. Members meet monthly to discuss math, prepare for competitions, and participate in fundraising activities—such as the annual Goul at the School—to support the Mathematics Department’s technology. Members also provide free tutoring to fellow students across a variety of subjects.

Membership is open to students who have successfully completed Algebra I and Geometry with at least a B. Students who have not yet completed these courses may join as club associates. Applications are available outside Room 121 and should be submitted with the registration fee ($25 for new members, $10 for returning members) to cover a t-shirt and the annual honor society membership.

The club meets on the third Thursday of each month.

The National Art Honor Society inspires students to develop their skills as artists and leaders while promoting visual arts at Karns High School.

Participation is open to students who have taken or are currently enrolled in an art class. The group meets after school on Mondays in Room 164.

The National Honor Society is a service and leadership organization made up of academically high-performing junior and senior students. Students are invited for membership in the spring of their sophomore year based on their unweighted GPA.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 8 a.m. in the library.

Scholars Bowl is an academic competition where students test their knowledge across a variety of subjects. Teams from Karns High School compete in events organized through PBS, fostering teamwork, quick thinking, and a love of learning.

Michael Masters is the faculty sponsor.

The KHS Book Club is intended to help young readers to develop a passion for reading and books. 

The group meets every Wednesday in Room 130.

Model United Nations is an educational simulation in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.

The group meets on Mondays after school in Room 215.
